Downloading a Facebook video on Android

Updated 2026-10-07

Facebook's Android app will happily hand you the link to a video and then leave you with nothing to do with it. The rest of the job happens in the browser.

Copy the link from the app

Tap the ⋯ menu above the post, then Copy link. For a Reel, use the share arrow and the same option. Both produce a link the downloader can read.

If the post is in a group or on a Page, the link still works as long as the video itself is public. Group content set to private will not resolve.

Why the app cannot finish the job

Downloading was a feature once. It was pulled from the main app for the same reason every other platform pulled it: a saved file leaves the app, and the app is measured on what stays inside it.

What is left is a copy-link button, which is exactly half of what you need.

Saving the file

1
Open your browser.Chrome, Firefox and Samsung Internet all work.
2
Paste the link.Long-press the input field, choose Paste.
3
Pick the version.Facebook usually stores one file per resolution the uploader provided. Where only one exists, you are not missing anything.

Where Android puts it

Chrome writes to the Downloads folder in internal storage. Most galleries index it within a minute, so the video shows up in Photos on its own.

If it does not appear, open Files → Downloads, long-press the file and choose "Move to" your Movies or DCIM folder. Gallery apps scan those reliably.

A download that produces a tiny file — a few hundred kilobytes for a long video — was cut off partway. That is almost always a VPN or a flaky connection rather than the tool.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download a private Facebook video?

No. If the post is not public, no tool can read it, and anything that asks for your Facebook password to try is a scam.

Do Reels download the same way?

Yes. A Reel link resolves the same way a normal video link does.

Will the video have sound?

Yes. Facebook serves complete MP4 files with the audio track included.

Paste the link, get the file

No app, no sign-in, no permissions beyond the download itself.
